Mission-“Our mission is to utilize the bio resources of mainly Arunachal Pradesh as the state is rich in herbs and biodiversity, to bring about sustainable development in food and medicine emphasizing on the need of the locals. The organic waste of the region can also be converted to useful organic manures and animal feeds. To initiate multi-disciplinary programs through academia-industry interface that is an essential driving force for innovation and to emphasis on recent trends in Biotechnology and Chemical Engineering through organization of conferences, symposia, workshops. The Department of Biotechnology and Chemical Engineering is consistently involving regularly update of the course curriculum to meet the needs of academia and industry.”
About the department
Biotechnology and Chemical Engineering currently function as a joint Department since summer of 2015. The discipline of Biotechnology started admitting student in 2014-2015 in 4 years B.Tech in Biotechnology. A total of 7 students got admitted in the 2014-2015 session and a total of 22 students in the 2015-2016 session. The discipline of Chemical Engineering started admitting students in 4 years B.Tech programs in Chemical Engineering in the year 2015-2016 with a total strength of 22. The department aims to provide latest state-of-art education, research and innovation in areas of Biotechnology and Chemical Engineering. In general for the country as a whole, and in particular for the North Eastern region full with bio-diversity, bio-resources, bio-medicinal plants etc, the offer of courses in Biotechnology and Chemical Engineering with specialization in bio-medicine, food processing, preservation etc, are decisively befitting for this Institute of National Importance.
The major thrust of biotechnology includes infectious diseases, clinical and health Research, proteomics, biochemical engineering, tissue engineering, drug discovery and nutritional biochemistry, bio-medicinal plants computational biology, cancer biology. Our Chemical Engineering part is focusing on colloid and interfacial science and engineering, computational fluid dynamics, micro and nano fluidics. The department has recently initiated efforts to establish advanced research laboratories in all the thrust areas under a center for excellence funded by MHRD. Initiative has been taken to invite industrial professionals to interact with students thereby allowing them to understand the challenges and requirements related to industries.For More Details....
